Young and the Restless is closing out the year with a bang! The show has taken on a new resurgence with the addition of Colleen Zenk as Jordan to the canvas. Soap Hub got up with head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith to talk about that development and others that are happening in Genoa City.

Josh Griffith: Y&R Preview

Griffith chatted with Soap Hub right after he won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. We asked about the addition of Zenk to the show and the scribe used simply one word to describe her work: “Phenomenal.”

The writer also praises Hayley Erin as Claire AKA Eve, the daughter that Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Cole (J. Eddie Peck) believed had died shortly after birth. “It’s been a joy writing that story,” Griffith says. “It’s one of those things that keeps giving. We’ve got years of [story] to tell.”

Griffith says that this is his ninth Daytime Emmy. In addition to his being honored for his work at Y&R, the scribe has also won awards for writing One Life to Live and Santa Barbara. To take home this year’s awards, Griffith submitted two episodes involving Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Billy (Jason Thompson). How does Chelsea’s near-death experience affect her today? “It’s a day-to-day struggle, one that we’re trying to stay true to as we go forward,” Griffith says. “[Chelsea needs to] do the work, stay in treatment, take the medications, and, hopefully, become a better parent given the situation.”

Getting back to Claire, Griffith says he’s quite aware that many would like to see Cole and Victoria’s daughter bond with another black sheep of the Newman clan — Adam (Mark Grossman). “Everybody keeps saying, ‘When is she going to meet Adam!'” says Griffith, who says this story has been one in which Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) has shined as it has sent Victor’s wife back to the bottle. “It’s given Mel a great platform,” he says. Does he believe we’ll see Thomas Scott at next year’s Daytime Emmy Awards? “We will,” Griffith says.
