Time will tell if Amanda Sinclair, the doppelganger of the late Hilary Hamilton, will come between Devon and lady love Elena on The Young and the Restless. But Devon and Elena’s portrayers, Bryton James and Brytni Sarpy, are going stronger than ever in real-life.
Brytni Sarpy And Bryton James: Real-Life Love
Sarpy recently did a revealing interview with CBS Watch magazine, confirming what many of her social media followers are aware of — she and James are in an off-screen relationship.
“We actually just bought a condo together and moved in about a month before quarantine, so thankfully, we weren’t in the middle of moving or anything,” Sarpy says. “Now, we have the opportunity to really get used to the walls around us. If there was ever a test, I guess we go hard.”
Elena came into Devon’s life as he was mourning his late wife. “Everyone was rooting for him to finally have something positive,” Sarpy says. “Elena’s character represented that. Still, I didn’t think people would fall that hard for them, because I saw what a strong fanship there was for Devon and [his late wife] Hilary.”
Sarpy says that the deep connection between the two characters has created something she feels is lasting. “There was so much drama surrounding Devon and Hilary, which was great,” Sarpy notes. “But it was a lot! With Elena, it feels like a seamless love story.”
Off-screen, Sarpy says she and James said “I love you” to each other around the same time that their characters were falling for one another. “So it was so very very real and so vulnerable,” she says. “Bryton’s awesome.”
The actress says she and her on-and-off-screen beau connected right in the beginning. “I showed up for my screen test and didn’t know where to park,” Sarpy recalls. “That was just the beginning of me getting lost at CBS! And he happened to be the person that I asked for help. I didn’t know he was the one I was going to screen test with until we went upstairs. We laughed and just had great chemistry and became fast friends.”
Perhaps, when the show returns, Elena will have an edge over Amanda, as there’s been speculation that soaps will write romantic scenes between real-life couples due to the coronavirus. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
