Although The Young and the Restless’ Phyllis may not be one for thinking of others, her portrayer, Michelle Stafford, is a great champion of people and the good they do.

Michelle Stafford Attends A Life Skills Class

Case in point, the Emmy-winning actress took to social media recently to call out someone making a difference.

“A couple weeks ago I had the honor of attending the life skills class that Big John Harriel heads up,” Stafford explained on Instagram, adding a photo of the two together. “He founded this group and is a huge part of the “International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers”. He helps women and men who have spent time in prison find a vocation, a skill, a career and really succeed!”

Already sounding like something that Phyllis would balk at, but not Stafford of course. The actress went on to describe how Harriel works with an organization called 2nd Call, a community-based organization designed to save lives, by reducing violence and assisting in the personal development of high-risk individuals, and giving people that second chance.

“What Big John does for folks is remarkable,” Stafford said. “I can’t even describe to you how this man single-handedly helps men and women change their lives and the patterns that they have learned as a way to cope. He helps these beautiful people unlearn their patterns. Listen, don’t we all need that?”

When meeting with Harriel and some of those he helped, Stafford heard story after story about how their lives were changed for the better.

“Damn, I was humbled,” Stafford continued. “I want to thank them for letting me sit in. I want to thank them for giving me one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. It wasn’t glamour. We were sitting in a parking lot, all of us, just being real. I was in awe of this beautiful group of people. They are ALL working their asses off to change their lives. I don’t know about you but those are the types of people I wanna be around. People who want to take responsibility and change for the better.”

Signing off, Stafford noted her hope that this is just the beginning.

On-screen, Phyllis has been more of a me-first thinker, and she’s not been too pleased with Sally focused on romancing Jack. Will her jealousy get in the way of her love story with Nick? Stay tuned! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
