The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden is famous for portraying Victor Newman on the soap. He’s also known to be quite outspoken about politics after he escaped Germany during World War II. Several times in the past few years, he’s taken to social media to say his piece. Recently, fans expressed surprise at the situation.
Real-Life Drama
Certainly, these past weeks could have been ripped from the plot of a soap opera — a bad debate, calls to step down, an assassination attempt, a political convention and a surprising drop out, and more — but it’s real life. It’s been a tough time, and everybody has an opinion.
Braeden, who encouraged folks to vote not too long ago, shared some thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) after President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t seek reelection this fall. “Boy, am I waiting for things to cool down in the world of politics; we all are, I’m sure! Let’s all vote to continue our democratic system and institutions! And let us remember we are still the strongest economy and military in the world, notwithstanding the BLATANT LIES AND BULLSHIT spread by you all know who!”.
The actor, who does not mince words, continued, “It’s an old fashioned method by right wingers to scare voters into Armageddon, and only their chosen leader can fix things!! Right! Into the largest deficit we have EVER HAD under TRUMP! He is the laughing stock of the world!! And now he doesn’t know about project 2025! Right!!! It’s all his closest advisors who put it all together at the HERITAGE FOUNDATION and THE FEDERALIST Society! The latter suggested all the rightwing judges who overturned the right of a woman to choose, among others!”
On fan summed up the surreal nature of chatting with Braeden about today’s political climate. “When I was a youngin’ in the 80’s watching The Young and the Restless, I never envisioned that I’d be discussing politics at 52 with Victor Newman (for either of us). 😊”
Another viewer shared a similar thought, writing, “I started watching The Young and the Restless with my stepmom and her mom. I stopped watching for a while, but got back into it about 10 years ago. I really hope things change for our country or we’re not going to have one. Trump must be voted out!”
Of course, plenty failed to agree with Breaden, and unless they were rude, he attempted to remain cordial with the viewers. “I thought we were going to simmer down with the politics??” asked one. Another replied, “We’re supposed to simmer down, but Eric doesn’t have to.” The actor explained, “Hahahahahahaha! [I] am sitting by someone’s bedside in a hospital and talking calmly to All of you!!”
“We can disagree on politics without personal attacks…we absolutely have to stop the divisive rhetoric so nobody else gets hurt. I really miss the old days when we could do that and remain friends 😕” replied a fan.
To that, Braeden wrote, “GIRL, I’m all for it!! But remember where most of the name calling comes from! It could have been stopped by all his fellow Republican candidates years ago, when they let him get away with nothing but insults! None of them had the guts and spine to say, “hey, blowhard, what did you say?” They were and are all spineless wonders!! Remember after Jan 6, how many said ‘this is it,’ only to kiss his ass again! Starting with McCARTHY and then McConnell and GRAHAM! Spineless cowards ALL! They allowed him to get away with the name calling!”
What about you? Have you had the chance to chat with Braeden about things on social media before?
