Smilin’ Jack Thinks He Bested Victor On Young and the Restless December 6…But Did He?

Put one in the win column for Smilin’ Jack Abbott on The Young and the Restless December 6 episode. What’s that we hear? A screeching needle across a record playing “Nadia’s Theme.” A smug Jack thought he pulled one over on Victor, but we think he was celebrating the win prematurely.

A Win By Any Other Name

Jack (Peter Bergman) went to the new Newman ranch to see Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). When Victor (Eric Braeden) returned home, he wasn’t pleased to see his nemesis in his home, and he invited Jack to leave.

As he left, Jack thanked Victor for selling the gutted parts of Glissade so cheaply because…he bought there. Victor didn’t say anything, but Nikki looked shocked. Victor merely stared stoically, and Jack was excited, thinking he’d won this round of Newman vs. Abbott.

Here’s why we think Jack is dead wrong. Earlier in the episode, Victor had a sit down with Kyle (Michael Mealor). He told the younger man, who’s set to start again at Jabot, that he always plays this long game. This was a clue both for the Abbotts and for the audience. There is no way Victor didn’t anticipate Jack rebuying Glissade’s parts back cheaply. In fact, we suspect he already knew before Jack proudly announced it.

Remember that in this episode, Victor also talked with Diane (Susan Walters). He warned her that her family would never be whole again. We’ve no doubt that, as usual, Victor is several steps ahead, and somehow, Jack played right into his hands. You’d think Jack would eventually learn, but it doesn’t seem that he has…at least not yet.
