If you love the intricate backstories on soaps then Scott Reeves, formerly Ryan on The Young and the Restless and Steven Lars on General Hospital, has a movie for you! The actor stars in Someone Like You which tells the story of a man who finds love for a second time.
Scott Reeves: Someone Special
Someone Like You by author Karen Kingsbury tells the story of a couple played by Reeves (Larry) and Lynn Collins (Louise), who conquer some challenges to have a daughter — only to have that daughter die in a car accident. The movie also stars Robyn Lively (Lane, Savannah) as Dr. Jenny Allen
“My wife and I couldn’t get pregnant,” Reeves says, speaking in character. The couple embarked on a journey involving IVF and frozen embryos to bring their baby into the world.
The couple’s daughter was set to act as an organ donor to her mother when she became old enough but died before the operation could take place. “Her best friend, Dawson [Jake Allyn], who was in love with her, is destroyed,” Reeves sets up. “We had never told our daughter she could have a sibling out there [as there was another embryo].”
Dawson goes on his own journey to try to locate that potential sibling. It turns out she exists and was adopted by a family in Nashville. “I don’t want to give it all away, but amazing things happen,” Reeves shares. “It’s a love story. There’s redemption. Katen is so brilliant at bringing all that stuff to life.”
Even if Reeves weren’t in this movie, he’d be checking it out in theaters. “I’m a chick flick guy,” he reveals. “I enjoy feeling all these emotions. Missy [Reeves, ex-Jennifer, Days of our Lives; my wife] got me into Karen’s books years ago.”
It may be hard to believe but it’s been a little over a year since Reeves reunited with his Y&R pals at the show’s gala 50th Anniversary party in downtown Los Angeles. He’s been off the show as Ryan for over 20 years, but he says he’s still asked about coming back to the show today. “Yes! Everybody is like, ‘When are they bringing you back?'” says Reeves, who’s definitely open for a return to Genoa City. “I say, ‘Well, it’s not up to me!'”
Check out Someone Like You in theaters now.
