Despite being advertised as a season finale, the December 19, 2019 episode of OWN’s Ambitions was, in actuality, the series’ finale. The heartbreaking news came courtesy of the soap’s leading lady.
Ambitions Cancelled
Robin Givens, who starred as Stephanie Carlisle Lancaster on the OWN original program, took to her Instagram account on Thursday to reveal that she had, “found out last week that Ambitions wouldn’t be returning for a second season.”
Described in a press release as, “a multigenerational family saga centered around one woman who, having recently relocated and intent on revitalizing her marriage, finds herself going head to head with some of the most powerful and deceitful players in the city.” Ambitions made its television debut on June 18, 2019.
It concluded this past December with an episode ironically titled, Save the Best for Last. The project was the long-gestated baby of former Daytime Confidential contributor, Jamey Giddens, who found a champion in uber-producer Will Packer, the man responsible for a plethora of feature film successes including Stomp the Yard, Think Like a Man, and Ride Along.
In the wake of the serial’s cancellation, many fans have taken to social media to express their ire, send positive vibes to Giddens, and brainstorm amongst themselves as to where the deposed creator should wind up next.
Amongst the many well-wishers were Rodrigosworld81, who tweeted, “Major shoutout to @Jamey Giddens for this amazing creation. Would have loved to have seen a second season but God has soooooooo much coming your way my friend.”
Also voicing his disappointment with the decision was SoapTwitter influencer Alan Sarapa, who wrote both, “Bummer about #Ambitions. Maybe now Jamey Giddens can join one of the daytime soaps writing teams or join Dynasty for S4,” and “I really would take Jamey Giddens as new #Y&R HW. He knows more about that show than any of the head writers of the past decade…”
In a post on his personal Twitter account, Giddens stated, “So this happened… #Ambitions was such a joy to create. I am forever grateful to @willpowerpacker and @LionsgateTV for the incredible opportunity to tell a fun, decadent story showing that tales about black and brown people don’t have to be steeped in pathos & tragedy.”

I really would take Jamey Giddens as new #YR HW. He knows more about that show than any of the head writers of the past decade. Yes, including Sally Sussman who very clearly didn't watch the show after she left it in the mid-2000's.
