Young and the Restless On the Couch: Here’s Why Chelsea Forgot How To Lie

Chelsea and Adam were so worried about Connor on The Young and the Restless that they fell into bed together. There! That should make somebody feel better! Because Chelsea is supposedly in love with Billy, and Adam is now living together with Sally, the two cheaters agreed to keep their night together a secret. Except Chelsea seems to be having trouble with that. Why? Why would Chelsea, of all people, suddenly be having trouble lying? We put her on the couch for a peek inside that pretty, messed up (and pretty messed up) head of hers.

Who I Am Is Who I Want To Be

Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan — who recently celebrated a big milestone) was raised to be a con artist. And she was good at it. She scammed Billy (Jason Thomson). She scammed Adam (Mark Grossman — who discussed this storyline). She scammed Nick (Joshua Morrow).

Chelsea has stolen money, and she tried to kill Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) and frame Adam for it. All while hiding behind her “Who, me? I’m just a silly, innocent, fluff of a girl” facade. So why is keeping her mouth shut about sleeping with Adam, especially since Chelsea claims she’s just as committed to Billy as Adam is to Sally (Courtney Hope) and would hate for the truth to come out? We have two theories. One nice, and one…not so nice.

Baby Mine

Chelsea may have used men and abused women, but she has always been devoted to her son, Precious Connor (Judah Mackey). His needs come first. No matter how many people she may have to sacrifice to give her darling his heart’s desire. Now that Connor is sick — and being “treated” at what more and more sounds like a very shifty facility — Chelsea will do whatever she has, to help Connor heal.

From the beginning, Connor has wanted Mom and Dad together. So if that’s what it takes, then that’s what Chelsea will do. She may not realize it consciously, but spilling the beans about her sex romp with Adam is her way of making it happen. Billy will dump her, Sally will dump Adam, and Chelsea and Adam will reunite…for Connor’s sake.

Black Hole

The other possibility is that Chelsea cannot handle not being the center of everyone’s universe at all times. After all, remember the suicide attempt that forgave all her past sins and made everyone love her? Especially people like Billy and Johnny (Paxton Mishkind), who have every reason not to. Well, Chelsea liked how that felt.

The idea that Adam might now have another woman to focus on, not to mention that Billy’s kids are in town and he might want to focus on them for a while, is really not to Chelsea’s liking. However, suppose her secret about sleeping with Adam comes out why. In that case, Billy will have to re-focus on her again (negative attention is still attention!), as will Adam, as will Sally, as will Adam’s dad, Victor (Eric Braeden), as well Billy’s ex, Victoria (Amelia Heinle).

Consciously or subconsciously, Chelsea wants this affair to come out. Because then it will be all about Chelsea again. Just how she likes it.
