On the March 17 episode of The Young and the Restless, Nikki packed a bag — well, two, actually, according to Phyllis — and walked out on Victor over his kidnapping of Jack. Why, we couldn’t be more delighted.

Key Takeaways.

  • Victor and Nikki are toxic together.
  • Victor has gone too far — again.
  • Nikki should never, ever go back.

Decades of Deadly Drama

The first time Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) met, he lied to her. He then made it clear that she wasn’t good enough for him, and insisted that she completely change her look and her personality before Victor would even consider having sex with her. And then Victor decided nah, not interested, and forced Nikki to marry another man and pass unborn Victoria off as his.

That’s what true love looks like in Genoa City. Since then, the couple has married, divorced, married, divorced, died, come back to life, lied, lied, lied, threatened, blackmailed, and lied some more. Your patriarch and matriarch, ladies and gentlemen. Who wouldn’t want a relationship just like them?

Monster Mash

Victor and Nikki have a rhythm. He does something awful, she frowns, he explains why he’s doing it for his family, and she goes rushing into his arms, murmuring how wonderful he is. Victor compliments Nikki on her excellent taste.

But this time, Nikki decided that Victor went too far. He kidnapped Jack (Peter Bergman) and tried to get his family and/or Phyllis (Michelle Stafford, who revealed what made the cast closer) to trade Jack’s life for Newman Enterprises. Nikki told him she wouldn’t stand for it. Fine, Victor bellowed. So get out then. Nikki did. For a change.

And Don’t Come Back

Victor is going about his business, confident that his “baby” will soon see the light and return. That’s how it’s always worked. But Nikki seems righteously determined to make a point this time.

We can only cross our fingers that she is finally, finally out from under the thumb of her accuser. Free Nikki! Or, better yet, allow her to free herself.
