Since 1994, Michelle Stafford has played the meddling Phyllis Summers on The Young and the Restless. She had a couple of breaks in there with Sandra Nelson playing the part from 1997 to 1998, and Gina Tognoni from 2014 to 2019 when Stafford played Nina Reeves on General Hospital. Despite those short recasts, Stafford has owned the part and 30 years later Phyllis is still going strong.
Thirty Years in a Minute
Stafford recently shared a fan-made video that was a little over a minute long on Instagram which encapsulated many of Phyllis’ well-known moments. Stafford was so floored and flattered that she captioned it, “This is so cool. Thank you @fanofsoaps for making this! So sweet! I don’t know where you got all these clips, but I love seeing this. The evolution of 30 years. So fun! #phyllis30 What a wild WILD ride it has been. ❤️❤️❤️.”
The video was set to a song called I’m Gonna Show You Crazy by Bebe Rexha, which is the perfect title for the scheming Phyllis. It was chock full of her crazy antics like planting a dead octopus in Paul (Doug Davidson) and Christine’s (Lauralee Bell) bed, her various disguises, stabbing herself, her clifftop fight with Sharon (Sharon Case), and more. One character’s voice was heard saying, “You’re grinning like the cat that swallowed the canary,” which is Phyllis’ signature response when one of her plans comes together.

The Fans Need More Phyllis
Co-star Bell eagerly responded, “This is amazing!! 👏👏(🐙😂).” Other soap stars also commented on the video including General Hospital’s Finola Hughes (Anna) who replied, “Amazing!” and Days of Our Lives star Tamara Braun (Ava) who shared three applause emojis. A fan who appreciates the complexity of Phyllis remarked, “I love how Phyllis can be so vindictive and make you hate her then in the next breath so vulnerable and you want to hug her.”
One fan who really loves Phyllis wrote the heartfelt, “Phyllis has been the most consistently spicy character on the show. The others have moments but then get boring at times. Phyllis is never boring; and no matter what, it will always be a great scene if she’s in it. Thanks, girl for always bringing it.” The fans loved all of Phyllis’ antics, especially her disguises, and clamored for more.
