Why Michael Could Turn Dark Again After Young and the Restless November 25

You’ve really got to feel sorry for Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless. He committed some awful, terrible crimes. He served his time, paid his debt to society, and worked hard to turn his life around. He became a good person, a devoted husband, a loving father, an upstanding and moral attorney. And now, his “best friend” Phyllis gave him a hard time about it on the November 25 episode. Would you blame him if Michael said, “Oh, to hell with it,” and went back to his wicked, wicked ways? We wouldn’t. Here’s why.

Professional Penalty

Michael (Christian Le Blanc) has been a fantastic lawyer for Victor (Eric Braeden). Not only has Michael done much of Victor’s dirty work for him, but he has also saved Victor from himself on numerous occasions. Michael got Victor out of trouble when he faked his death, when he killed people, when he broke more laws than most people know exist.

Because Michael is always looking out for Victor, when Cole (J. Eddie Peck) showed Michael that Victor was keeping Jordan (Colleen Zenk) prisoner in his basement, Michael leaped right to work, figuring out how to protect his boss from being arrested for the multiple felonies. And how did Victor express his gratitude? By saying that Michael had betrayed him and telling him he would have to work very hard before Victor forgave Michael for…protecting him. The Mustache still isn’t over it.

Personal Day

Now, his best friend Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) was furious to learn that Michael would be representing Sharon (Sharon Case) for crimes against Phyllis and her family. That woman is crazy! Crazy! Phyllis couldn’t stop repeating that to Michael.

How could Michael justify defending a murderer? When Michael pointed out that he’d, very recently, as a matter of fact, defended Phyllis against the same charge, Phyllis refused to listen. She is good. Sharon is bad. If Michael can’t see it, then Michael is bad too. And Phyllis won’t be his friend anymore. So there.

Fed Up

No matter where Michael turns, no matter how hard Michael tries, his best efforts are taken for granted or, worse, treated as crimes and betrayals. Well, in that case, why is Michael killing himself, trying to do the right thing?

Everyone always accuses him of doing the wrong thing, so why not lean into that? Why not stop working to be good and just revert to being bad? He knows he’s got it in him. And if that’s what people expect, then that’s what he will give them. Are you happy now?
