Abby Newman continues to worry that a marriage to Devon on The Young and the Restless might not work out because of her failed marriage to Chance. With all the drama, her portrayer Melissa Ordway gives the character her all. Because of the fans’ continued loyalty, she’s able to evolve Abby as a character, and she recently expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
Fans Deserve the Credit
Ordway shared a video aimed directly at the fans in a now-expired Instagram story. “I just want you guys to know that it is not lost on me how lucky I am to get to do a job that I absolutely love,” she began, continuing, “And I’m just feeling very grateful because I know that that is not the case for everyone.”
Her thanks continued by showing an appreciation for the fans who keep the soaps (and her job) alive. “So, thank you for watching our show. Thank you for everything because we get to do what we love, because of you guys, so thanks,” she pointed her finger at the viewers.

Abby and Devon Meant to Be
In July, Ordway spoke with Soap Opera Digest and discussed Abby’s concerns about marrying Devon (Bryton James). Feeling that the couple is meant to be, she explained that Abby is concerned that making it official could ruin what they have. “I think she’s worried that once you put the marriage title on it, it’s going to change everything because she’s been so unsuccessful in that department.”
Her past marriages include Chance (Conner Floyd) and Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan). While Chance’s job as a police officer was the root of their issues, Stitch was just downright rotten to her. Either way, that’s two unsuccessful marriages under her belt. As a result, Ordway explained, “The last thing that Abby would ever want is to hurt Devon because he’s the love of her life and also her best friend.”
