Mariah’s secret has her unraveling on The Young and the Restless. Every time anyone tries to talk to her, Mariah brings up her traumatic past with Ian. Could the notorious cult leader be responsible for her latest ordeal?
Haunted By Her Past
Ever since Mariah (Camryn Grimes) returned from her business trip, she’s been keeping a secret from her wife, Tessa (Cait Fairbanks). The only details Mariah revealed was that she got drunk and did something that would make Ian (Ray Wise) proud. Mariah suffered a lot of torment because of Ian, and even though he’s gone, she’s still haunted by him. Her painful past with Ian might have caused her to make the biggest mistake of her life.
Y&R finally gave a glimpse at what happened during Mariah’s trip. In a flashback, Mariah is drinking in a bar when an older man (Michael Swan) approaches her. It’s unclear what happens next, theories range from Mariah committing murder to sleeping with the man. Whatever occurred, it’s traumatized Mariah and has her believing she’s a bad person.
But could the incident have been a calculated plot against Mariah?
Fan theories are emerging that Ian might be behind what happened on Mariah’s trip. Although Ian is “dead,” characters return from beyond the grave all the time. Ian could’ve survived his gunshot wound, then had plastic surgery to alter his appearance. With a new face, he easily could spy on Mariah and continue torturing her.
Another theory is that the mystery man has a connection to Ian, possibly a brother or cult member. He could be doing Ian’s dirty work for him or seeking revenge for Ian’s death.
There’s still many questions to be answered in Mariah’s storyline, but one thing’s certain: Ian is a big part of it.
