Jermaine Rivers said goodbye to his acting stint on The Young and the Restless. He’s been part of the soap since February. His onscreen alter-ego, Damian, met his fate with a knife in his back. The French Riverian trip has turned into a whodunnit. As for Rivers, this was a big secret for him to keep.
Under Lock & Key
Unsurprisingly, the identity of Aristotle Dumas was an easier secret to keep. The show had to surprise viewers with Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) death. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Rivers revealed what went through his mind when he first learned about Damian’s death. He wanted his character to go out with guns blazing, especially when he worked so hard on his storyline.

“What went through my mind was, ‘Let me have a great death. Let me make sure that I play it honestly so that way, the fans can feel something.’ This isn’t the first time I’ve died on camera, and I think each time I get a little bit better at it because it’s not so much how a character dies, but it’s how that character lived,” Rivers said.
Not a Fan
Rivers understood the assignment. He knew this twist had to be kept under wraps, and it was important for him not to reveal his status with the soap. But that’s impossible in the age of social media, where soap spoilers live on. Soap fans love knowing what’s going to happen next. Spoilers keep them tuned into the show. As for Rivers, he wished it hadn’t been leaked.

“I understand for the sake of the integrity of the show because we see it a lot, whether it be accidental, things get leaked, and the plans that the writing room, the executives, the producers have laid out for a year or nine months or however long to build up to a great storyline or a great reveal, it gets ruined,” Rivers said. He admits that he hates spoilers. “It’s a detriment to the process,” he explained.
Regardless, Rivers isn’t upset with his role ending. In fact, he would appear on another soap opera in a heartbeat. Rivers loved keeping up with the pace of daytime. He doesn’t see this as the end. Rivers believes it will bring him more opportunities. We would love to see him on the screen again.
