Dominic went missing on The Young and the Restless. Mariah snatched him away from Devon and Abby. As a mom, Melissa Ordway tapped into every mother’s worst fear. She felt Abby’s emotions as the gripping scene unfolded in Wednesday’s episode.

Key Takeaways

  • Mariah made the painful decision to take Dominic away from Devon and Abby.
  • Seeing their son gone left them spiraling and looking for answers.
  • Abby and Devon realized their son was kidnapped.
  • Melissa Ordway could relate to Abby’s fears as she’s a mom in her waking life.

A Fear That’s All Too Real

This storyline was too close to Ordway’s heart. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the mother of two daughters addressed every parent’s worst fear. She could relate to her character, who felt hopeless and helpless the moment she realized Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark) was gone.

All she could do was wait for the police to arrive with news. Ordway shared her own thoughts about this storyline, which she admits “makes my stomach sick even thinking about it.”

She also addressed the naysayers who claimed that Abby and Devon (Bryton James) should’ve gone searching around town instead of quabbling in their mansion. “That’s why when everyone’s like, ‘Oh, how can you just cry in this scene?’ I’m like, ‘All you have to do is just think about if this actually happened to your own child.'”

At first, Abby assumes Dominic is still playing hide-and-seek because that’s what he mentioned earlier. After a few minutes had passed, Abby realized that he was not around. She knows her son would normally pop out after the game.

Abby and Devon Blindsided By Mariah

Of course, Abby and Devon aren’t going to expect Mariah (Camryn Grimes) to snatch Dominic. She left everyone behind in Genoa City when she sought treatment in Boston. So, she wouldn’t be the first person on their minds.

Ordway explained that they think it’s “someone trying to get back at her dad.” The Newmans are already going through turmoil with their legacy company being ripped from their hands. Additionally, they had to deal with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth), who tried to kill Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Noah (Lucas Adams).

Ordway can’t wait for fans to see what else unfolds in this storyline. “But honestly, I was really excited. I was like, ‘Yay me, because I get to act this out,'” the actress added.

Ordway gets to bring out her inner “mama bear.” Sometimes these scenes were so emotionally overwhelming that she couldn’t handle them. Ordway acknowledged that she’s keeping a closer eye on her children.

“Like, you just get so scared that something’s gonna happen to them because my greatest, greatest gift in this life is those two little girls, and you just want to make sure they’re always safe,” she added.
