The Young and the Restless star Joshua Morrow revealed Nick’s plan to “silence” Matt Clark for good. How is that possible when Nick is in the throes of drug addiction? The Newman son was always seen as the “good boy,” who never succumbed to Victor’s darkest tactics, but that could change.
Key Takeaways
- In the past, Nick would take on the role of the “good son,” never following in his father Victor’s footsteps.
- Currently, Nick is struggling with a Fentanyl drug addiction, which was fueled by none other than Matt Clark.
- Morrow suggested that Nick might resort to his father’s darkest tactics to take down Matt on his own.
Nick Might Go Down a Dark Path
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Morrow teased what’s next for his alter-ego, who’s in the throes of addiction. Ever since he came across that baggie of Matt’s (Roger Howarth) leftover Fentanyl pills, he hasn’t been able to help himself. He keeps popping those pills to escape and to just feel something… anything.
Nick’s moods have drastically changed, to the concern of Sharon (Sharon Case) and Noah (Lucas Adams). They fear something is wrong with him. In the meantime, Nick wants to fight his own battles, which could be dangerous for the good guy who wants to be seen as the hero.
Morrow teased that Nick used to take pride in being the “Good Newman son.” The one who never resorted to wrongdoing to help his family. However, that could change and backfire, since he’s never played by Victor’s (Eric Braeden) rulebook, relying on some of his darkest tactics.
“He lacks the cunning, game-playing, and brains of Victor Newman,” Morrow said. “He’s all heart and actions, so he’s impulsive, and he makes a lot of mistakes, which again, is something I really like playing about him.”
The Meaning Behind Nick’s Temper
Y&R viewers noticed Nick’s temper. He’s lashed out at everyone, even his own family. This character change isn’t to make him more irritable. It’s to show what his temper could do to him. Nick could become more reckless, especially when it comes to taking on Matt Clark. Morrow noted that Nick’s temper could both help and hurt him.
“So his temper is always going to hurt him while also assisting Matt Clark, because Matt can always manipulate Nick in that way, knowing that Nick is going to do things that maybe aren’t very well thought out,” Morrow explained. “So that’s a problem for Nick, even though Nick refuses to acknowledge it.”
When Nick last tried to handle Matt on his own, the villain caused him to crash the car, which left Nick with a broken leg. He’s also growing dependent on pain medication that’s not helping the situation.
Morrow noted that Nick’s sole focus is on ridding his family of Matt Clark. But his head is not clear when it needs to be. So, how will Nick take Matt down? He might have murder on his mind. But this might not happen the way he anticipated it.
“He’s got an addiction to pain meds while mixing in hard drugs. That’s a recipe for disaster, especially when you have somebody with a personality who’s as impulsive and reckless as Nick can be,” Morrow teased.
