The July 10 episode of The Young and the Restless saw Kyle and Summer digging in further with their custody argument about Harrison. During their clashes, Kyle mentioned that he would win because Summer wasn’t even Harrison’s biological parent, which seemed like a low blow. Ultimately, Kyle’s behavior is a mistake. (Check out these other questions we have about Y&R).
Playing With Fire
Yes, we all know that Tara Locke (Elizabeth Lenier) is Harrison’s (Redding Munsell) biological mother. Of course, she’s in prison right now for some rather dubious charges by Genoa City standards, at least. Tara returning to town would put a huge wrench in things, but if that isn’t going to happen, then it seems Kyle might be making a mistake when he shouldn’t.
Summer (Allison Lanier) seems to have some legal rights to Harrison, or there’s no way she’d threaten lawyers. At least, we presume she does. Sure, being a Newman might give her an inflated sense of what she can and can’t do, but she seems to have some type of parental rights to Harrison that are more than just Kyle (Michael Mealor) allowing her to stay in his life.
Kyle is in the middle of a destructive pattern, and Summer is right to be worried. She made a good point when she pointed out how selfish Kyle is being. He’s been fired from his family company, he’s suddenly chosen to move out without telling her, and he insisted on hiring Claire (Hayley Erin) against her wishes. Of course, Summer should also consider listening to Daniel (Michael Graziadei) and try working a little harder to co-parent with Kyle before calling in lawyers.
Ultimately, this fighting between Kyle and Summer isn’t truly what’s best for Harrison. Kyle is making several mistakes right now, and not working harder to keep Summer involved in his decisions about Harrison is one of the biggest. Presumably, in the eyes of the law, Summer is (and should be) an equal parent. Plus…there’s the small wrinkle that Kyle is working for Victor (Eric Braeden), who is Summer’s grandpa.
What do you think? Is Kyle making a mistake, or is Summer the one who should back off? Let us know in the comments below.
