Melissa Claire Egan is gearing up for her anniversary on The Young and the Restless. When Chelsea Lawson first popped up on the screen, she was a far cry from who she is today. Chelsea has overcome so much over the years. Egan shared her thoughts on the beloved character.
Has Chelsea Changed?
This is the question that was brought up in Egan’s interview with Soaps.com. Even she admitted that Chelsea “was pretty awful.” At the time, she alleged that Billy Abbott (then the late Billy Miller) got her pregnant when he assulated her at Maynmar. However, there were a few holes in her story.
During the interview, Egan talked about the success of Chelsea’s character. She admitted that “she’s not all bad.” Over the years, Chelsea has gotten softer. But she still has that sinful side to her that comes out every so often.
“At her core, she has a questionable moral compass,” Egan explained. “She wants to do the right thing and make good decisions, but…Well, we’ve seen how that turns out.”

Chelsea and Adam’s Rekindled Romance
Chelsea was in a relationship with Billy (Jason Thompson). She threw it all away for a passionate night with Adam (Mark Grossman). But it’s more complicated than that. The exes share history and a son, Connor (Judah Mackey), who struggled with OCD. Egan explained why the two always end up in each other’s orbits.
“One of the reasons she and Adam are drawn to each other is that they’re so similar,” she mused. “They both have a good side, and they both have a bad side.”
Most of the time, they bring out each other’s flaws. However, Egan would love Chelsea to explore her inner bad girl more. It’s what makes her job fun. This might suggest that Chelsea’s rekindled romance with Adam won’t be smooth sailing.
