Matt Clark tried to escape on The Young and the Restless. He took back control over the Newmans. In a stunning turn of events, some viewers want Matt to reign supreme. They’re feeling bad for him despite his over 20-year history as one of the worst villains on the soap.

Key Takeaways

  • Matt had a sick obsession with Sharon and tried to keep her away from Nick.
  • He’s also known for raping women.
  • Some fans are feeling bad for Matt and want him to win this time around.
  • They think he lost in love, especially with Sienna.

Some Y&R Viewers Feel Bad For Matt Clark

Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) has a dark past that’s inexcusable and irredeemable. Yet, over at one soap opera message board, some Y&R viewers feel bad for him. They think he lost out in love.

One person empathized with his anger, noting that he “lost Sharon to Nick and then he lost his wife to Nick’s son Noah.” The original poster couldn’t help but understand why he acted the way he did.

Matt locked up Sienna (Tamara Braun) and kept her hidden. Then, he bumped Noah (Lucas Adams) over the head and knocked him out cold in a fit of rage.

Brief History of Matt’s History With Sharon

Matt never had a genuine relationship with Sharon (Sharon Case). His feelings stemmed from a sick obsession with her. He also harbored a desire for revenge against her and Nick (Joshua Morrow), which persists to this day.

Sharon briefly dated Matt during their high school years. He became dark when she broke up with him to be with Nick. Arguably, Matt’s actions were a pattern of his abusive and vindictive behavior.

In Matt’s head, he created this rivalry, whom he blames for “stealing” Sharon from him. This eventually led Matt to rape Sharon, so he could retain power and control over her. He also later raped her best friend, Amy Wilson (Julianne Morris).

Despite his brutal crimes, some fans feel bad for him. Someone else argued, “And Victor wiped him out. He’s been reinventing his life for more than 20 years, only for Nick’s son to take his wife.” That same person is not excusing Matt’s past, but they understand why he would be upset.

No Pity Party For Matt Clark

Matt has been trying to move on from his past. He created the “Mitch Bacall” pseudonym to become a different person. Yet, other viewers can’t empathize with him for one clear reason only.

“He’s a rapist, I really can’t relate to his feelings at all!” one fan wrote.

“Anger might make sense, but the way he’s reacted in the past and present is insane and not in any way ‘understandable,'” someone else argued.

Other fans noted that Matt has never taken accountability for his past and for how his life turned out. Instead, he ran away from it. Matt resurfaced later in Los Angeles with a new identity as a nightclub owner, but dealing drugs.

That alone shows he has learned nothing. According to Matt, it’s always someone else’s fault for the way things have turned out. This time, it’s the Newmans.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel bad for Matt? Or do you think he doesn’t deserve anyone’s empathy?
