On The Young and the Restless, Cane is hiding behind his “wildcard” Phyllis. And now, he wants Billy to join them. He assembled these Avengers before, but it quickly fell apart. Cane’s hoping that their team can work together this time around.

Key Takeaways

  • Cane sees himself as an outcast despite being the wealthiest man in Genoa City.
  • He prefers to work with fellow outcasts, such as Phyllis and Billy.
  • He’s assembling a team of three.
  • Billy Flynn explained the reason behind Cane’s decision-making.

Cane Creates His Unlikely Trio

If this feels like deja vu, it’s because it’s happened before. Cane (Billy Flynn) wanted to work with Billy (Jason Thompson) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), but Billy proved himself to be a wildcard who went 10 steps ahead.

But Cane wants to try working with them again. He offered Chancellor to Billy without consulting Phyllis. She’s just finding out this information, and assumed they would both have the Newman empire all to themselves.

In Cane’s mind, he feels like an outsider. And he wants to team up with the outcasts of Genoa City who can help him. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Billy Flynn explained the reason why Cane is gunning to work with all three of them.

“I think with Cane and Phyllis, what they are trying to achieve, they’re both kind of underdogs,” Flynn said. “Same with Billy, and I think that’s why I like the teaming of the three of them, because they feel like sort of the outcasts trying to make things in their own way.”

Is Cane Using Phyllis For His Personal Gain?

Cane and Phyllis seemed like an unlikely couple. But their professional goals have kept them on the same team. Phyllis thinks she deserves the Newman empire because of how they treated her.

However, Flynn teased that Cane could be using Phyllis. He might hide behind her, so he comes out looking good in the end. But he also has to be careful about how he approaches their relationship.

Cane doesn’t want to upset Phyllis and give her the slightest reason to turn on him. “He’s going to keep making up with her and keep her around,” Flynn teased. He will continue to use Phyllis until she’s no longer useful to him.
