Steve Kent is exiting his position at Sony Pictures Television where he oversaw production of Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives. However, the daytime veteran is not departing Genoa City. He’s taking on a new role with the top-rated CBS soap opera, which was recently renewed for four more years.
Deadline reports that a Sony Pictures Television spokesman has confirmed to the news outlet that Kent will no longer be Senior EVP of Programming however, he will become executive in charge of production at Y&R.
Steve Kent had been overseeing Y&R and DAYS since 2007. He was in charge of developing and the production of Outlander, Nikola, As If, and other shows both scripted and unscripted. The exec’s role as Sr. EVP Programming is being eliminated and Kent’s responsibilities will be covered by other members of Sony Pictures Television’s production team.
Deadline reports that Y&R was created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell but added that the show focuses on two core families “the wealthy Brooks family and the working class Foster family.” While those two clans launched the show and were featured prominently for the first several years, today’s Y&R focuses on the Newman, Abbott, and Winters families and many other characters.
