CBS announces today that it has renewed Y&R, the No. 1 daytime drama for over 36 years for four more years. Viewers can expect to see the soap on their screens through the 2027-28, season, which means it will celebrate its 55th year on the air.
“The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement.
“The talented cast and writers deliver compelling performances and stories on a daily basis and have provided iconic moments that have kept the show on top of the ratings and thrilled generations of fans for over five decades,” Reisenbach continued. “We look forward to seeing what new creative twists and turns they have planned for the folks of Genoa City.”
Y&R is averaging 3.50 million viewers this season and has been the #1 daytime drama on TV for the last 36 consecutive years. The series is also the #1 daytime program among African American viewers.
The Young and the Restless was created by the late William J. Bell and his wife, Lee Phillip Bell. Today, Josh Griffith serves as both head writer and executive producer. Series stars Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Reed Newman) and Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) recently celebrated, respectively, their 45th and 40th anniversaries with the show.
Later this year, Peter Bergman will celebrate 35 years as Jack Abbott. This year is also the 30th anniversary for Joshua Morrow (Nicholas Newman), Sharon Case (Sharon Rosales), and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers).
