They didn’t leave Genoa City at the same time, but fans have missed supercouple Adam and Chelsea ever since they made their respective departures from The Young and the Restless. Now, the show’s top exec speaks out on their futures!
Mal Young, Y&R’s executive producer and head writer, talked to TV Insider about a variety of topics, including whether or not we’ll be seeing Adam and Chelsea any time soon.
As far as Adam goes, there are no plans to bring the character back at this time, Young says.
Nick, who’s launching Dark Horse and is determined to never let his father, Victor (Eric Braeden), run his life again has somewhat taken on the role of an adversary for the Newman patriarch the way Adam was.
“I don’t know if or when [Adam will be back],” Young said. “Everyone talks about him a lot. He seems to be a big part of the show. He’s officially dead, but…maybe not?”
As for Chelsea, there’s hope that we’ll see her again either played by her original player, Melissa Claire Egan, or another actress.

“When Missy said she wanted to try new things we got the feeling that Chelsea was going off on a little trip and she wasn’t [leaving forever],” Young said.
“Missy and I talked about how this isn’t the end of the story. Chelsea has Adam’s kid. She’s got a big chunk of Y&R history out there. That character will walk back in one day. There’s no doubt about it.”
While it’s possible Egan will return to the part of Chelsea and Y&R someday, it’s less likely that viewers will ever see Justin Hartley (ex-Adam) back on daytime, given the mega success of NBC’s hit series This Is Us.
