Nathan Owens first broke into the daytime scene, when he was cast as Cameron Davis on Days of our Lives back in 2012. Now he’s back tackling the mysterious role of Damian on The Young and the Restless, Nate’s recently revealed half-brother.

Born in Daly, City, California, Owens and his family eventually relocated to Sacramento where he finished school. He’s spent time living in New York, where he booked a hosting job for an NBC subsidiary before heading back to the West Coast and Los Angeles. An actor-model-producer, Owens’ credits include the primetime series Batwoman and 9-1-1: Lone Star, the OWN holiday film, A Season to Remember, and independent film, A Mother’s Love.

1. Owens has a tight bond with his single mother, Diana, who raised both him and his sister, Anissa. In fact, he’s often called his mom his best friend, noting that he would “go to the depths of the earth to help her with anything.”

2. He began his career as a model thanks to his sister, who suggested he try it. After sending his photos to an agency in San Francisco, they hooked him up, and things went off and running. He’s appeared in a few issues of GQ magazine and has done commercial and print ad campaigns for brands like Gap, Izod, Sperry, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Owens was the second African-American to be featured in a campaign for Ralph Lauren Polo’s Big Pony fragrance.

3. Although he’s achieved great success based on his looks, Owens notes that his mother preached “brains first. You have to be a good person and also a smart person. That’s how I’ve modeled myself,” he notes.

4. Owens once worked in corporate America. He held down a job at Verizon Wireless as a sales representative and climbed his way up the ladder.

5. Owens has appeared in music videos for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Esmee Denters. He starred in Minaj’s Va Va Voom video.

6. Primetime fans might remember Owens for his role as Jesse Morgan on Devious Maids. The character, a military vet who returned to The States after three tours in Afghanistan and settled back into civilian life, appeared in the show’s third and fourth seasons.
