The Young and the Restless gave Lily Winters a big, high-powered job as CEO of Chancellor Enterprises. Although she’s somewhat untested, Lily took on the job with Jill Abbott’s complete support. However, we couldn’t help but notice she seemed to need Billy Abbott’s approval too, which hit us as all sorts of wrong.
Lily (Christel Khalil) had her triumphant first day at her new job. But, of course, she spent plenty of time trying to build Billy (Jason Thompson) up as COO too. Sure, it was weird going to her old ChancComm office as CEO of Chancellor, but Jill (Jess Walton) managed to secure the entire building for the company, so why not use what they have (or the set Y&R had)?
The Young and the Restless created a lot of build-up to this day. Early on, Lily had some qualms about running such a large company, given her limited business background. It’s undoubtedly a huge change from her post-prison work with underprivileged women and her previous modeling experience.
However, Jill trusted Lily, and she accepted the job. Finally, after weeks of preparation, Lily gave her big, company-wide speech (off-screen — surprise!), and Billy praised her for it. That would’ve been a great ending to her day.
However, instead of accepting his praise, Lily asked for his approval. She wondered out loud to Billy if it was really an okay presentation. We understand that Lily has some reservations about her new role. However, it’d be wonderful to see Lily as a powerful woman who doesn’t have to ask for Billy’s opinion on her actions.
We appreciate Billy’s support of Lily, but we would love to see her own her power and wield it for good at Chancellor. Lily shouldn’t need to qualify what she does.
