The news of Justin Hartley’s (Adam Newman) departure from The Young and the Restless crushed fans. Even so, most are thrilled to watch him in his new primetime show on NBC, This is Us.
His Next Act
In the new drama, Hartley portrays Kevin, a sitcom actor who’s bored with his life. Hitting his 36th birthday causes Kevin to reconsider his life goals. It’s a role that at least one person thought was written specifically for Hartley.
The actor knew he wanted to be part of the project from the moment he first read the show’s amazing script. His enthusiasm over the new NBC drama makes fans even more excited to see the unique show’s premiere.
He told the Chicago Sun-Times, “When I read the pilot, I was like, ‘Man, if I could be a part of something like this, this would be like a dream come true for an actor.’ It’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime scripts you read. This role spoke to me in so many ways: I think he leads with his heart, he’s always got good intentions and he’s very driven.”
He called his agent, and the rest is history.
What’s it About?
The stunning new show contains a unique mix of dramatic elements mixed with comic relief. You’ll laugh and cry and then laugh through your tears, according to Hartley.
He explained, “The way that [writer and executive producer] Dan [Fogelman] sort of mixes the tone of the show, the way he will literally have you crying and then all of a sudden something will happen and you’ll sort of start laughing through the misery that you’re experiencing in these characters.”
This show sounds like a smash hit for both Hartley and NBC. He clearly adores working on it, and you’re going to love watching him on it!
