On The Young and the Restless, all it took was Mariah mentioning that Abby was looking for just the perfect sperm donor to father her baby, and Devon knew the perfect candidate – himself! After all, who wouldn’t want sperm from someone whose genetic profile include an alcoholic and a drug addict!?

The Young and the Restless Polling

But almost 2,000 fans are wondering if Devon (Bryton James) isn’t making a huge mistake by volunteering. Here’s what they told us:

Bad Idea

A majority 62% of the audience needs Devon to withdraw his offer – ASAP. Let’s look at some practical considerations (outside of the risky genetic prospects): Is Devon really going to be able to live in the same town with his child and refrain from offering helpful little parenting tips to Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Chance?

Are Abby and Chance prepared to parent a child who obviously does not look enough like either of them to even seem to be their biological offspring? Do they want to constantly be fielding intrusive queries like, “Is he really yours?” and “Where did you get her?” (Trust us: It happens.)

Devon has never had a child before. He doesn’t know how he’ll feel upon seeing his own flesh and blood, especially after the issues he has with his own biological parents. This is too much of a risk!

Good Times

A smaller 38% of you like the idea. It’s great drama! Besides, Chance is Phillip Chancellor’s grandson. Devon is the grandson of the woman who killed Phillip! Abby wouldn’t be getting a complete stranger for her donor, she’d be getting family. This baby would be part Abbott, part Newman, and part Chancellor (kind of).

He or she would be all of Genoa City high society in a nutshell. Of course, they wouldn’t be able to date anyone in town due to incest concerns, but that’s a long way away yet…The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
