Impeachment Soap Operas
The network coverage of the Impeachment Trial of President Donald J. Trump interrupted it’s way into a second week and may not end in time for the Super Bowl as the president so hoped.
So far, we haven’t seen any General Hospital, but right now that’s our only MIA soap. Hopefully, ABC decides to change course and give us GH rather social media videos of actors promising us the show will be back. We’d like them back soon, please and thank you. The Internet and Hulu work well.
One soap taking advantage of 2020 technology is Days of Our Lives. NBC has a regular policy of putting the soap online at night on NBC.com. Soap Hub already saw today’s episode and you can read a recap here. Salem is back in its version of the present time and Gabi is getting nervous.
The Young and the Restless fans on the East Coast has seen about 30-40 minutes of a new episode since last Thursday. Even the West Coast is now getting a little Genoa City action. Early in the afternoon, CBS used Jordi Vilasuso to tell fans in a tweet that YR can be seen on CBS.com and CBS All Access tonight.
BB once again aired on the West Coast today, which means everyone gets to see it tonight on CBS.com and CBS All Access. So, yep, we’re still waiting for GH.
According to ABC executive Nathan Varni, ABC has made a decision about whether it will keep delaying General Hospital through the length of the impeachment trial, and at this point, it will. This means you may not see your Port Charles pals for quite a while. We saw the episode that would have aired last Tuesday, so when you next see GH, it will be a doozy with a double shootout.
GH did tweet a message on Monday to check back with this social media page for updates on when GH will return. This was more than a day ago. There have still been no updates.
Soap operas began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap opera.
Spanning more than nine decades, American soap operas have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcast. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air.
