Nick Newman finds himself at a crossroads on The Young and the Restless, now that things between him and Phyllis Summers have imploded. Although nothing major happened, Summer Newman Abbott’s parents decided to split once again. Now, Nick is alone with Christian, and it’s time for him to make some changes.
The holiday season can be difficult for a breakup, but Nick (Joshua Morrow) finds himself alone with Thanksgiving and Christmas rapidly approaching. The good news is that most of his children are in Genoa City to help ease the loneliness. Unfortunately, his children are no substitute for a romantic partner.
He continues to repeat the past, which means he worries about what his Newman family is up to. He can’t stand that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is currently Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) favorite son. And yet, Nick still doesn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps. Despite that, he’s willing to let his worries over the Newmans interfere with his relationship with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), ultimately leading to their breakup.
Speaking of Nick’s family, he does need to reconcile with Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle). He’s attempted to, so she also has to give some. Perhaps she’ll accept his olive branch…eventually.
While many Young and the Restless viewers ship Nick with Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), she’s married to Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso). However, their marriage seems like it’s not the right fit for Sharon, so we wouldn’t be shocked to see them break up sooner rather than later.
However, given Nick’s penchant for repeating the past, we’d prefer he didn’t go back to Sharon. Perhaps if they find themselves locked in a bank vault or a freezer, but probably not. He needs to break some cycles before being able to have something healthy with Sharon.
Similarly, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) arrives back in Genoa City soon, but again, Nick’s been there, done that (at least with an engagement). So while they might reunite, we’re not sure that would help Nick grow and change.
Nick needs somebody new. Perhaps something with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) or maybe even Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan). Possibly, Nick should stay single. He could focus on his charity work and children for a while. It feels like he’s done that a few times in the past several years, but he may need time for introspection and change before jumping into a new relationship. Nick needs to break out of his past old habits and bad mindsets. Only then will he find true happiness.
