The Young and the Restless recap for Thursday, July 5 highlights a stunning decision, a risky gamble, and a heartbreaking past. It was a can’t-miss episode with more than a few surprising plot twists!
Jack wanted definitive proof that Philip Chancellor was his father and believed having Dina testify in court was his only way (aside from digging up the dead Chancellor).
Despite his son’s hesitation, Kyle agreed. However, before she takes the real stand, Jack wanted to test her fidelity.
Across town, Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) met to discuss an explosive discovery about Victor (Eric Braeden) and JT (Thad Luckinbill.
They fear the report implicated the Newman powerhouse in JT’s disappearance, and Neil tried to reach Victor to alert him.
Unfortunately, Victor was nowhere to be found. Surprisingly, the search for Victor was temporarily halted when Ashley met Nate. He didn’t tell Ashley about his real reasons for being in Genoa City and Neil plans to keep it that way.
When she left, Nate revealed to Neil his concerns about working for Victor. Neil assured the worried doctor he had a choice to leave, but does he?
Neil also alerted Nate they’ll have a small dinner party that evening to celebrate his return.

While everyone seemed enthralled by the new doctor, Hilary felt differently.
Certain Nate was hiding something, the curious woman tried to pry the information from him. When Nate resisted and lashed at her, Shauna was there to defend Hilary.
Frustrated, Nate stormed off and Neil put Hilary in her place – Nate was mourning the love of his life. And, today was the one-year anniversary of her death. Stunned and beyond embarrassed, Hilary left the party.
Elsewhere, Billy (Jason Thompson) and Summer (Hunter King) decided to partner up and be gambling buddies. Unsurprisingly, hours later and lots of money lost, the pair must now figure out how to rescue themselves from another pitfall.
Back at the Abbott house, the dry run is underway. Ashley and Kyle watch on as Jack bombarded Dina with questions. To their amazement, Dina made it through the questions and named Philip as Jack’s father once again.
Jack was thrilled. Dina seemed fit to testify, and a stunned Ashley agreed. He wanted to keep asking her questions, but Ashley stopped her brother and insisted Dina needed a break.
Kyle took his ailing grandmother back to her room while Jack and Ashley discussed the next steps for her.
Sadly, a few moments later, Dina appeared back in the living room. Completely disoriented, terrified and incoherent, It was a heartbreaking moment and everyone realized she was in fact, very sick and could not testify, ever.
Watching his mother suffer moved Jack to make a startling decision about his paternity case.
