One of the best things about soaps in general and The Young and the Restless, in particular, is that characters have the time to grow, change, and evolve. Of course, they can also return from the dead.
The Young and the Restless Polling
For instance, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) no longer sleeps with anything that moves. (At the moment, he’s not sleeping with anyone.) Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) no longer locks up his wife’s lovers in his basement. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) no longer runs people over with her car. And Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) hasn’t sexually assaulted a woman in decades!
If they can move past their bad habits, can Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) be redeemed? What almost 3,000 viewers believe:
Impossible Dream
Nope, 67% of The Young and the Restless audience insists. Jack, Victor, Phyllis, Michael…not to mention Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), Jill Foster Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton), Summer Newman, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks), Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Henrickson), the list goes on and on…can do terrible things, but then move past them, be forgiven, and even accepted into Genoa City society. Not Diane, though. Diane is different. Reasons, you know.
Either Way
Well, maybe she can, 27% of you are willing to be a bit more open-minded. As long as she has truly changed and has really groveled for forgiveness. If The Great Victor Newman is willing to give her a shot, maybe, just maybe, we will, too.
Hope Springs Eternal On The Young and the Restless
Only 6% are on Team Diane, with no caveats. You know Genoa City’s track record for turning monsters into pussycats. It won’t be long before Diane having stolen sperm to impregnate herself with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), thinking she was getting Victor’s, ending up with Jack’s, not to mention all her blackmailing and other crimes are just delightful anecdotes…like everybody else’s.
