Fresh Blood: Does The Young and the Restless (YR) Need Some New Characters?

It’s a paradox: Soap operas thrive on history, past relationships, and familiar faces. They also periodically need new characters in order to keep moving forward… and every fan favorite was once a newbie.

On The Young and the Restless (YR), there was a time when the Abbott and Newman families displaced the original Brooks, Foster, and Chancellor clans.

Victor (Eric Newman) was once just a deep-voiced villain lurking in the corner, torturing the people he professed to love.

Neil (Kristoff St. John) was merely a flunky at work, with no story of his own, and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) were spoiled children throwing tantrums. Goodness, how times have changed!

The majority of the canvas has been in Genoa City for decades. So is it time for some fresh blood? Over 2,000 fans played casting director.

Newer Is Always Better
Yes, please, 73% shout! There is just so many times we can watch the same couples falling in and out love, swearing that everything will be different on this go-around, but, come on, who’s fooling who?

Bring on the new faces, whether it’s Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) suddenly aged twins, Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) and Mattie (Lexie Stevenson), or Arturo (Jason Canela), who seems to be moving on from Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) to Abby (Melissa Ordway). Just freshen things up! Now!

As Is
There isn’t even enough time for stories about all the characters we already have, 27% of you counter, and the last thing we need is more people!

How about a story for Jill (Jess Walton)? Neil? Traci (Beth Maitland)? Noah (Robert Adamson)? Even Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) seems to have faded into the background after being on the front burner practically every day.

If the writers are out of ideas for them, the last thing they need is to bring on new people they don’t know how to write for!

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
