Former CBS Promotions Director Susan Banks Joins The Young and the Restless

There’s a new writer joining The Young and the Restless. Susan Banks, formerly of the CBS promotions department and TV One, has joined daytime drama as a writer. She made the announcement on social media. Her first YR script is airing this week!

A New Writer Joins The Young and the Restless

“Dear Family and Friends,” Banks began when sharing her exciting news. “I am so excited to announce that my first script for The Young and the Restless airs on Monday, March 1, 2021. “Writing for the show is a thrilling ride that challenges my creative juices every week.

“Bill and Lee Bell [Y&R creators] are icons of the television industry whose love, mentorship and support I have always cherished,” Banks continues. “It is an honor to be a part of their soap family and the legacy that has continued for almost 48 years.

“What a delight to return home to work with the amazing cast and characters of one of the greatest, never-ending stories ever told,” she continues. “The drama, rich with passion, intrigue, mystery and romance has captivated the hearts of many through the years. I hope you, too, will share the magic and tune in to see my opening credit on my premiere episode. Who knows…you might even get hooked! Thanks for your loving support…”

Banks was the mastermind behind the CBS Daytime promos that ran in the 1980s. The pulsating video montages were set to The Power Station song “Feel the Heat” and the Robert Palmer hit “Addicted to Love.”

Banks was at CBS from 1993 to 2003. During her tenure there, she held the positions of Director, Daytime On-Air Promotion, CBS, and Executive Producer & Executive in Charge of Production, CBS. After exiting the Eye network, Banks went to work for TV One where she executive produced and wrote Coins for Love, Media, Second Sight, For the Love of Lockwood, Fear Files, and The Fright Night Files.

Back in the 1980s and 90s, Banks worked directly with Bill Bell and shared what she learned from him in his biography, The Young and Restless Life of William J. Bell. “Bill never wanted to give anything away,” Banks recalled in the tome. “Never tip the storyline– just tease it. Entice your audience, but don’t tell them. Bill was very strict about that.”
