Kate Linder plays Esther Valentine on The Young and the Restless – a role she has had since 1982. Linder’s passion for acting started at a very young age and inspired her to start auditioning during college.
Along with her television career, Linder has also appeared in movies and focuses on her charity work. From the interesting job she had in the past to becoming a celebrity spokesperson for an important cause, here are five fast facts about The Young and the Restless actress.
In The Beginning
Linder was born on November 2 and raised in Pasadena, California. She grew up wanting to be an actress, developing her interest in making a career of it by seventh grade. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in theater arts.
Up In The Air
While she was in college, Linder started working as a flight attendant for Transamerica Airlines. She would study and perform in local theater productions most days of the week, and then when she had free time she’d be a flight attendant. She kept her high-flying job for years after she landed her role on The Young and the Restless, often running into thrilled fans on flights.
She’s A ‘Star’
Linder got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Lee Phillip Bell, and dear friend and co-star Jeanne Cooper spoke at the ceremony.
Celebrity Spokesperson
Linder has been a Celebrity Spokesperson for the ALS Association for many years. Her late brother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS and inspired Linder to get involved. She travels to Washington D.C. every year to lobby on behalf of the cause.
Film Appearances
Along with being a soap star, Linder has also made appearances in movies. She was in Hysteria, which starred Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy, Erased, which starred Aaron Eckhart, and Mother’s Day, which starred Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, and Kate Hudson.
