She won an Emmy for her efforts and won over a legion of fans as a new incarnation of Phyllis on The Young and the Restless for the last five years. But, now Gina Tognoni’s run is over.
As Phyllis fiddled with her cell phone to get a signal and find someone to let her out of her new prison hell, Tognoni uttered her last lines as the fiery redhead she’s played since 2014.
Phyllis will virtually disappear for a few weeks as Summer (Hunter King) frantically searches for her mother — and Adam (Mark Grossman) is the only one who knows that Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) kidnapped her.
When we next see Phyllis, she will once again be played by Michelle Stafford, the actress who originated the role way back in 1994 and played her off and on (mainly on) until 2014.
Since 2014, Stafford had been playing Nina Reeves on General Hospital, a part that will soon be played by former Guiding Light star Cynthia Watros.
Social media was abuzz on Friday as fans realized this was the last they’d see of Tognoni in the YR role. The actress even posted some farewell videos and snaps on Instagram of her last scenes being taped as she expressed her gratitude for the last five years.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
