Y&R’s Nate Hastings Storyline Doesn’t Make Sense With His Confession

For a while now, on The Young and the Restless, Nate Hastings has been — restless. The former doctor made a significant career change, and it didn’t go smoothly. He became villainous and even made a plan to sell out his family and Chancellor-Winters to Victoria Newman and Newman Enterprises for a little bit of power.

Nate Hastings Has A Sudden Backtrack

Nate (Sean Dominic) spent weeks scheming with Victoria (Amelia Heinle) to buy up shares of Chancellor-Winters when it went public. He repeatedly told Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) he wanted her support, and he didn’t pay any attention to her complaints about his behavior. It truly seemed Nate was primed to take on a role as a villain (and we were here for it).

However, Elena told him she was leaving Genoa City, and because of that, he totally backtracked. He confessed his misdeeds to Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), and the newcomer Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver). It was a sudden about-face, and it really doesn’t add up, considering Nate’s recent behavior.

It’s not like Elena hadn’t already left Nate and stayed in a hotel. He shouldn’t have been under any illusions that she’d decide to stick it out if he went forward with his plan with Victoria. Even with his sudden change of heart, it seems highly unlikely that Elena will give Nate a second chance. She seems entirely checked out of their relationship.

Nate’s sudden change of heart just seemed…far-fetched to say the least. The sudden change offered no payoff after seeing Nate act devious and, dare we say, soapy, for several weeks. Just as it felt like some real drama was coming up, and Nate would be working closely with Victoria, his sudden confession just felt…off. There wasn’t any payoff from all that angst. Sure, the story isn’t over, but there’s little doubt that this plot point didn’t feel satisfying. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
