Daniel Romalatti had a brilliant idea on The Young and the Restless: His mother, Phyllis Summers, should come work for him, now that she’s been fired from her job at Marchetti. Daniel wasn’t even phased by the fact that the person who fired Phyllis was his sister, Summer Newman Abbott.
Young and the Restless: Oh, Mother
So obviously, Summer (Allison Lanier) didn’t find working with Mommy a thrill a minute. But Daniel (Michael Graziadei) figures he can do better. He offered Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) a job managing the programmers and designers for his new video game site.
Y&R: It Could Always Be Worse
Phyllis didn’t raise Daniel. After lying about who his biological father was, Phyllis lost custody of Daniel to Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), the guy to whom she lied. Danny primarily raised Daniel outside of Genoa City. And Danny was a pretty nice guy, all things considered. So Daniel grew up a relatively nice guy, too.
He was pretty nice when he came to town as a teen and hooked up with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). Even the murder charge he faced over Cassie Newman’s (Camryn Grimes) death was proven false. Sure, he told the usual amount of soap-opera lies and pulled some schemes. He was no saint. But he was still one of the good guys.
Daniel Romalotti: Bad Influence
Phyllis didn’t have much sway over Daniel growing up, and he’s been gone more recently, raising his daughter, Lucy, with Heather Williams (last played by Jennifer Landon). But now, they’re going to be working together. They’ve never spent so much time together before. And we’re worried about where they could lead.
Phyllis is currently furious about being fired by Summer, yelled at by Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), and generally bested by Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). So how long until she pulls Daniel into her twisted worldview — and makes him feel obliged to do something to defend his mother’s honor? And that cannot possibly end well. For anyone. We’re worried even Danny’s Christmas-time appearance won’t be enough to stop it.
