The wedding week for Mariah Copeland and Tessa Porter finally arrived on The Young and the Restless, and typically you can always count on drama during a soap opera wedding. This one is different, though, but there was some minor drama (so far), and we love how the daytime drama got it right for its first same-sex marriage.

Young and the Restless Hits Groovy Note

We’ll admit we had some concerns about whether or not this Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) wedding would even happen. A few things worried us including Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) mooning over one of the brides and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) dying so close to the big day.

However, the soap managed to overcome those worries by having a seemingly moved-on Noah create the 1970s glam wedding venue we didn’t even know we needed. Then, they had Rey give the brides one last gift from the great beyond in the form of Crystal Porter (Morgan Obenreder). The sisters’ discussion ahead of the ceremony hit a lot of great sentimental and historical spots as did Sharon Rosales’s (Sharon Case) gifts to Mariah. We loved how Y&R included these special details.

We also appreciated the minor drama of Tessa’s dress. Plus, having Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) save the day was a wonderful touch.

Plus, at the wedding itself, the costuming was phenomenal. The guests were dressed to the nines, and they clearly understood the assignment. Bravo on getting the glamorous look down so perfectly. We loved seeing the men in fun outfits that weren’t just typical boring tuxedos, and the dresses were phenomenal.

In all, we’re looking forward to seeing the rest of the ceremony play out, and we hope if there’s more soap wedding drama to come, it’ll be of the mild and fun variety. This is one event we’re happy to see going off without a (major) hitch.
