We love having Nina Webster back on The Young and the Restless. Christine Williams told Victor Newman she planned to call her old friend to let her know that Chance Chancellor died, and we knew she was the best one for the job.
Young and the Restless Lifelong Friendship
Nina (Trica Cast) rushed back to Genoa City to be with Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) upon hearing that Chance died in an explosion. She ran in saying that “Cricket” called with the terrible news. We loved hearing that blast from the past in the form of Christine’s nickname, and it reminded us of this duo’s long history as friends.
From the moment that Cricket Blair found Nina on the park bench in Genoa City all those years ago, they’ve had a beautiful friendship. From working together to finding out what happened to Nina’s stolen baby to their time as roommates, these two were there for each other through thick and thin.
Cricket and Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) helped Nina gain some polish which led to a relationship with Phillip Chancellor III, which is how she got Chance (through rather dubious actions). Sadly, Phillip later “died” in a car wreck (but in true soap fashion, he didn’t).
Cricket and Nina even made it through Nina’s ill-fated love affair with David Kimble (Michael Corbett). Even after Nina ignored Cricket’s warning that David threatened to cut her face, they eventually worked together to foil him, but not before a twisted storyline where David wore a wolf costume and tried to kill them all.
Turmoil to Friends Again
Both women loved Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) on The Young and the Restless, and for a time, Christine stayed away so that Nina and Paul could be together. During that time, Paul helped Nina find her stolen baby — Ronan Malloy (Jeff Branson). Later, Nina and Christine fought horribly because Ronan “killed” Chance, but in the end, they’d faked Chance’s death to catch the bad guys.
Ultimately, Christine ended up with Paul, but that didn’t ruin her friendship with Nina. In fact, Nina even served as the maid of honor at their wedding. Through all the ups and downs, these two could count on each other when the chips were down. We suspect that Nina will need her old friend in the coming weeks as she once again grieves for Chance.
