Mariah Copeland did a very loving, giving, and brave thing on The Young and the Restless when she agreed to be a surrogate for Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor. She did an ever more loving, giving, and brave thing when she relentlessly kept her wits about her so she could protect Abby’s son during captivity. So, why aren’t more players fawning all over her?
Young and the Restless: A Horrific Ordeal
It’s quite clear Mariah (Camryn Grimes) is traumatized. Who wouldn’t be after being locked away in a windowless room with absolutely no contact with the outside world? No TV, no books, not even a fresh selection of magazines. She had no one to talk to but the tiny being growing inside her…for weeks.
Y&R: A Series of Traumatic Events
To make things worse, no one was even looking for her for most of that time! Like, no one in this woman’s life took her disappearance seriously enough to start an investigation. Just imagine how it would feel to find out the people who you thought loved and knew you best couldn’t even tell you were missing. Oh, sure, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) was upset and thought something was going on but she sure took her time pushing the issue.
Then, on top of all that, you give birth under hellish circumstances with zero medical care and then hand the baby off to someone who treats you like nothing more than the help. Oh, and then, the mother of the baby you just went through hell for plans to hand the baby over to a nanny to raise. Perfect.
As if that’s not enough, hardly anyone in Mariah’s life recognizes she just gave birth. They are all acting like Abby (Melissa Ordway) did everything and Mariah was simply a vessel and once that baby was out, her ordeal was over. Do they not think Mariah may be suffering the same post-birth symptoms many other women go through? Hormone influxes, a touch of postpartum depression, a sense of loss, phantom kicks, and all the other fun things that come with having a baby, never mind PTSD and trauma.
Everyone in Mariah’s life should be waiting on her hand and foot and in awe of her being a badass warrior for going through what she went through. Not gossiping behind her back and acting like she may become a problem around the baby.
Young and the Restless: Mariah Deserves It All
Upcoming Y&R spoilers tease Mariah and Tessa decide to pack their bags and move out of the mansion. Enough is enough and Mariah’s mental health and comfort have to finally start coming first. Of course, Abby will be beside herself because, for once, life doesn’t revolve around her, but this is the best thing for Mariah for sure. She needs time, space, and some separation from Abby and the baby in order to heal.
