On The Young and the Restless, neither Adam Newman nor Chelsea Lawson dares make a move without agonizing over how their precious son, Connor Newman, might react to their every action.

Center of The Young and the Restless Universe

Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), who usually lets nothing get in the way of getting what she wants, meekly stepped back when it was suggested her burgeoning relationship with Adam might stress the Newman heir. Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) didn’t hesitate to ditch his wife of less than a year and leave town to guard Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) so that Connor (Judah Mackey) might not fret over being separated from his beloved mother.

Even Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) took a break from moping over the girl who dumped him in London, and the girl who is now dating his sister, in order to spend time playing hockey with Connor so he wouldn’t suffer a moment of boredom when not the center of his parents’ attention.

The Young and the Restless: Afterthoughts

Meanwhile, Connor’s cousin (or half-brother, depending on how you look at it), Christian, hasn’t been seen in months – not even over Christmas! Unlike Connor, Christian has only one parent. And his dad keeps breaking up with Christian’s temporary mother figures, like Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Phyllis Summer (Michelle Stafford). But is anyone worried about how Christian feels about the unstable home situation Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) provides for him? Maybe that’s happening during the commercial breaks…

Fault Lines

Now, we’re not blaming young Judah for this. He is getting no help from the horrible writing Connor receives, not to mention the atrocious direction, which instructs him to whine every line, and stomp away, staring plaintively off into the distance, whenever Connor doesn’t get his way.

We are, however, blaming The Powers That Be. Your audience is primarily women, many of them mothers. We wouldn’t put up with this kind of behavior in our own homes. We are certainly not going to tolerate it during our Me Time. Don’t make us change that channel!
