Diane Jenkins is back on The Young and the Restless, and she is desperate to reconnect with her long-lost baby boy, Kyle Abbott. Diane first went to Jack Abbott and begged for him to put in a good word for her with their son.
Young and the Restless — Oh, Those Abbotts
Jack (Peter Bergman), after getting over the initial shock of seeing his baby mama back from the dead, put his own feelings on hold to make sure that Kyle (Michael Mealor) survived the shocking revelation. He arranged for the pair to meet and for Diane (Susan Walters) to plead her case to Kyle.
Y&R: Gang O’Four
So far, so fair, but then….the Abbotts somehow decided that it wasn’t enough for Diane to appeal to the child she abandoned and the co-parent who ended up raising him alone. (Well, when Kyle wasn’t living with his grandparents…or away at boarding school). They decided Diane needed to grovel at the feet of all of them. Because…reasons?
Young and the Restless: Supporting Players
Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) are Kyle’s aunts. Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) is his uncle. Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) is his cousin. Why do they get a vote on whether or not Kyle forgives his mother?
It’s not like they stepped in to raise Kyle when Diane faked her death. Traci spends plenty of time in New York City. Ashley lives in Paris. Billy and Kyle are more or less the same age, and so is Abby. They’re not even that close.
What was the point of this exercise, beyond the Abbotts pointing out that they were rich and powerful and could gang up on anyone they felt like? We understand that Kyle has very little backbone and is terrible at making decisions. Just look at his juvenile waffling between Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) and Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle).
Sure, if Kyle were my nephew, I wouldn’t expect him to make good choices, either. But that’s no excuse to take your low opinion of Kyle out on his mother. It’s none of your business, Abbotts!
