Claire Grace grew up away from The Young and the Restless, brainwashed by her Aunt Jordan to believe that she was the child of Victoria Newman and Cole Howard, who threw her away because they hated her grandmother, Eve, so, so much. (We’re a little fuzzy on how that works. Cole hated his mother so much that he threw away his own child? Victoria didn’t realize that her child would be the granddaughter of Eve Howard until after the child was born? Huh? What?)
Claire Grace: Origin Story
Victor (Eric Braeden) thinks the whole story is impossible. Eve Nicole Howard is dead, and Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) is not Eve Nicole Howard. But, if she’s not, then there’s no point to the last few weeks. And the last few weeks have been too good to have no point!
If You Can See It, You Can Be It
Claire agreed to a DNA test. If it comes back negative then…what? Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Cole (J. Eddie Peck) never speak to her again? Even if they continue to pay for Michael (Christian Le Blanc) to defend her, even if Victoria feels sorry for her and testifies for leniency, the emotional impact will, nonetheless, not be the same if Claire is just some random stranger.
Family Reunification Process
However, if Claire is Eve, think of the story possibilities! First, just Cole’s guilt over what his aunt did. Then Victoria connecting with her long-lost daughter. Johnny (Paxton Mishkind) meeting yet another surprise sibling. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) battling alcoholism as she has to accept the young woman who put her in this position. Victor (Eric Braeden) facing that someone got the best of him — first by kidnapping Claire, and then by turning her into a weapon he didn’t see coming.
Yes and And….
The only way Eve’s DNA test proving she isn’t a Newman could be worth it is if Victor deliberately tampered with the results. Claire would still be Victoria’s daughter, but the reveal would be pushed down the line. Then Victoria would find out she’d been betrayed…by her own father. Again.
