On The Young and the Restless, when Mariah Copeland first insisted that she and Tessa Porter should have a baby, ASAP, it was because she was missing Bowminic, the baby she carried for Abby Chancellor, then was forced to give up.
Young and the Restless — Teriah’s Future
But Mariah (Camryn Grimes) has calmed down since then. And she and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) have decided to adopt instead of having a biological child. Which they are insisting on doing right now — even before they’ve tied the knot. What’s really going on here?
Y&R: Bad Childhoods
Both Mariah and Tessa had pretty crappy childhoods. Mariah was kidnapped from birth mom Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and raised in a cult, which culminated with the guy who she considered her dad drugging and trying to marry her for her money. That was sick and twisted. Tessa has a little sister, Crystal, who she needed to rescue from an equally sick and twisted prostitution ring. So we get why they want to provide a better home to a needy tot. But is that really all there is?
Young and the Restless: Something To Do
The only time Mariah and Tessa are onscreen these days is if Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) is obsessing over his ex-love, or they are discussing the wedding…that has yet to have a date, much less a theme. In other words, they have no story.
This often happens with young couples on soaps. No sooner have they gotten together, even if they’re barely out of high school than they are obsessing about reproducing. Why? Because it’s about the only story writers seem to be able to come up with for couples that keep them united.
Fans want their favorites to have front-burner stories. But it’s either baby talk…or conflict. Almost like there is nothing in between. Since Mariah and Tessa have already forgiven each other a host of sins, it’s unlikely that anything could convincingly break them apart. So, babies, it is!
