What Parenting Books Are Mariah Copeland and Tessa Reading On Y&R?

Tessa Porter and Mariah Copeland were so excited to become moms on The Young and the Restless. They were so excited when they got matched with a birth mother. They bought all the baby gear. They read all the parenting books. And yet, based on their conversation with Sharon about their concerns for their daughter, they’ve got us wondering — were they paying any attention to what they read?

Mariah Copeland: Hear No Evil

Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) confided in Sharon (Sharon Case) that they were worried about Aria. Twice, she’d failed to wake up despite thunderous sounds. What could be wrong with her?

Hmmm, we’re no pediatricians, but we’re pretty sure we can discount ailments like chicken pox, an upset stomach, or a rash from the equation. If you’re afraid your child is not responding to noise, odds are you’re concerned she’s deaf. Right? So what was with the game of 20 Questions?

Young and the Restless: Alternative Theory

They also wondered why Aria wasn’t answering when they called her name. Could it be because she’s…five months old? That is too early to know she’s Aria, and they’re Mommy/Mama/Mom/Mumsy. They thought Aria wasn’t meeting her milestones. But that’s a seven-to-nine-months milestone. Did they skip ahead in the baby book?

Mariah Copeland and Tessa: Real World

The symptoms they’re worried about, in an older child, might be indicative of a hearing loss. Or autism. Both of which could be the grounds for interesting storylines. Having a child with special needs opens up all sorts of questions. How do they handle it? Do they go with a cochlear implant? That’s a pretty controversial step. Do they go with intensive intervention therapy? Ditto.

Will both moms agree on the course of action? Marriages have been known to break up over conflict in dealing with a sick child. We’d be down to watch this storyline play out. We just really hope Mariah and Tessa — and the writers — do their research first.
