Since she first arrived on The Young and the Restless, Audra Charles has had only one agenda. We didn’t always understand it. Did she want Noah? Did she want Tucker? Did she want Kyle? Did she want money? Did she want power? But, at no point, did her obscure desires involve thinking about anyone but herself.
That is until Audra sussed out that something was going on with Nikki. And, shared her own experience with an alcoholic father. Was Audra being sincere? Was she actually being helpful? Was she doing it without an ulterior motive? None of the above…or all of the above?
Audra (Zuleyka Silver) can want money, she can want power. She can be in cahoots with Tucker (Trevor St. John) and play the always-dimwitted Kyle (Michael Mealor). But, that doesn’t mean she is also incapable of genuinely connecting with Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) struggle due to having lived with an addicted parent.
And if connecting with Nikki’s struggle due to having lived with an addicted parent makes Audra indispensable to her boss, well, would that really be so bad? Audra can help Nikki and climb the corporate ladder at the same time. Why shouldn’t a grateful Nikki reward the woman who helped her when she was at her lowest? It would be the right thing to do.
And what if Nikki doesn’t opt to do the right thing? And after Audra genuinely connected with her struggle! Well, then, Audra would be thoroughly in the right to express her displeasure. The way she expressed her displeasure when Tucker toyed with her. The way she expressed her displeasure when Kyle played her.
Audra does not enjoy being betrayed. She is happy to support Nikki. But if Nikki doesn’t respond in kind, well then, Audra will show her how it feels to not be appreciated. By betraying her in turn.
