On The Young and the Restless, there’s no doubt the women are fashionably dressed every day. However, Genoa City seems to have an unusual proliferation of a certain style lately that isn’t quite as prolific elsewhere. We’re talking about the one-shoulder fashion the women sport on the regular.
The Young and the Restless Cold Shoulder
We know that Genoa City isn’t quite Paris, Milan, or New York when it comes to high fashion, but we do know it has fashion designers like Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson), and until very recently the infamous Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Read on for the top six (tongue in cheek) reasons why the women on Y&R might wear so many one-shouldered outfits.
1. Money Saving
Let’s face it, money is tight everywhere these days, and fewer sleeves mean less fabric. We all know what that means. Cheaper outfits! Right? Well, probably not really, but it is funny to imagine that the well-to-do citizens of GC are pinching pennies with their wardrobes (which never seem to repeat, BTW).
2. Fashion Forward
Although it’s not the first city anybody thinks of when it comes to fashion, perhaps Genoa City is simply ahead of the curve when it comes to what’s fashionable. Who knows? Perhaps next year we’ll ALL be wearing one-sleeved outfits all winter long…even in the snow…even if we’re cold.
3. Fashion Lagging
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Genoa City is lagging behind when it comes to fashion. After all, The Young and the Restless doesn’t have the fashion houses of The Bold and the Beautiful. It’s possible that we all just missed these cold-shouldered winter looks a few seasons ago, or perhaps we don’t remember…it’s been a crazy few years.

4. Too Hot
Even though they live in Wisconsin where winters get pretty cold, perhaps the women of Genoa City are simply too hot to wear full sleeves, so the look allows for some natural air conditioning to cool them down.
5. Toned Shoulders
The women of Genoa City clearly keep themselves fit. They’re putting all that time and effort into having toned shoulders, so they want to show them off year ’round. This one sleeve and one bare shoulder style allows for that without them having to wear tank tops or sleeveless shirts all the time.
6. They Like It
It honestly could be as simple as they like this style. Considering how often various women wear it, that’s likely the biggest reason.
