The Young and the Restless is delving into three powerful triangles, each rich with emotion and complexities that are totally driving the CBS soap. While two are deeply rooted in history, Christine/Danny/Phyllis and Lily/Daniel/Heather; the third, Chance/Sharon/Summer, is fresh and new and filled with plenty of storyline possibilities.
Young and the Restless: Take Two
It was decades ago that Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) set out to land rock star Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), drugging him and having sex with him before hitting the jackpot and ending up pregnant with his son. The revelation destroyed Danny and Christine’s (Lauralee Bell) fairy tale marriage, while Phyllis’s twisted plots to destroy her competition provided years of intense drama.
The prospect of revisiting the story now with the newly single Christine, a somewhat changed and saner Phyllis, and an older, wiser Danny is riveting. Might Danny actually find Phyllis the more attractive, exciting option this time around? However, if he does find himself gravitating back to his first love, Christine, it will be interesting to see if Phyllis pulls some of her old tricks to get the upper hand and the guy.
Lovers Past and Present
As teenagers, Lily (Christel Khalil) and Daniel (Michael Graziadei) fell head over heels in love and spent a summer on the run together before surprising their families by eloping to Vegas. The young romance eventually fizzled, and they both moved on. Lily wed Cane (Daniel Goddard), while Daniel found a lasting relationship with Heather (Vail Bloom), who raised his daughter, Lucy, as her own.
Suddenly single again in 2022, Lily and Daniel naturally reconnected, but now that Heather and Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant) have moved back to Genoa City, Daniel finds himself smack in the middle of two loves with a genuine pull in each direction. The fact that the two women are both honest and aboveboard only makes the situation more heartfelt and complicated.
A Tangled Trio
Last, but not least, there’s the tangled trio of Sharon (Sharon Case), Chance (Conner Floyd), and Summer (Allison Lanier). Sharon and Chance’s relationship developed slowly, from deep talks to picnics in the park to steamy sex in the backroom at Crimson Lights. However, as things intensified, Chance’s friendship with Summer was building in the background.
Despite being the cop investigating Summer’s mother Phyllis’s faked death, Chance became the man Summer began leaning on as her life was falling apart. And ever since Chance was shot in the line of duty, Summer’s begun to realize she has real feelings for him, feelings she’s bound to act on. It’s set up an intriguing triangle between a former stepmother and stepdaughter vying for the same man. Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that Nick (Joshua Morrow), Sharon’s ex and Summer’s dad, is bound to play a part in the twisted mess.
