The Kids Aren’t All Right: What Does Young and the Restless Think It’s Doing?

The Young and the Restless is making no sense these days. In multiple ways. But here is one that really has us scratching our heads. Where have all the children gone?

Young and the Restless: New and Unnecessary

Daniel and Heather (Vail Bloom) agreed that Lucy would stay in Genoa City and hang out with her dad “until school starts.” Which in Wisconsin will be between September 1 and September 5. So Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant) will be in Genoa City for…a week? Wow! We doubt we’ll even see her during that time. Which is a shame. Because this is one show that desperately needs a teen scene.

Y&R: One Hit Wonder

Remember that one episode when Lucy hung out with Johnny (Paxton Mishkind) and Connor (Judah Mackey)? Lucy seemed besotted with Johnny, and Connor pouted (as usual). That seemed like it might be setting up a story.

Except now, just as Lucy is spending her week in Genoa City, Connor demanded his mother drop everything and take him to see a new school he’s decided he absolutely must go to, and Johnny, according to Billy (Jason Thompson), is on his way back to boarding school with sister Katie. So that’s a big, old wad of nothing.

Young and the Restless: Younger Than Springtime

There’s also Faith (Reylynn Caster), who came home for summer vacation from college with an obviously doomed cat. The cat was poisoned, and Faith was kidnapped. And back to school she went. We understand why a real person would want to get the heck out of dodge. But why would a soap character? Where is Faith’s kind of boyfriend, Moses? Where are Lily’s (Christel Khalil) kids, Mattie and Charlie? Where is Victoria’s (Amelia Henile) son, Reed?

And, most importantly, why does Y&R keep bringing on these characters, casting them with talented, charming actors…and then shipping them out of town the next day?
