The Young and the Restless viewers know that Jack Abbott feels responsible for carrying on the Abbott legacy. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Jack’s portrayer, Peter Bergman.
As the patriarch of the Abbotts, Jack has a lot to handle. Lately, he’s been focused solely on helping clear Diane’s (Susan Walters) name. In doing that, he spent some of his time this week working hard to convince Chance (Conner Floyd) to accept the DNA evidence he and Kyle (Michael Mealor) found. Jack doesn’t often find himself in this sort of position, and Bergman had to do things a little differently for Jack.
The actor made it seem as if Jack respected Chance’s detective skills, but he was also firm and forceful. Much of this came through in Bergman’s body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Later, the tone shifted when he dealt with Tucker (Trevor St. John). He showed no pretense or respect in his demeanor when the two clashed over Ashley (Eileen Davidson).
Another moment where Bergman delivered some outstanding work this week was his conversation with Billy (Jason Thompson). He did an amazing job without even saying a word when Jack wasn’t hearing his brother due to worrying about Diane’s case. Then, when he finally did perk up, his gratitude and respect for Billy stepping up shined through. It was interesting to see how Jack pondered whether he’d been in the wrong over things, and it came through in so much more than just words.
When Jack let Ashley have it again over her supposed engagement to Tucker, in addition to his rage, Bergman allowed Jack’s hurt to show through as he reminded Ashley he’d been the one keeping the household together. Bravo on an excellent performance this week, Peter Bergman. We can’t wait to see what comes next!
